In 1986, the Greek Holy Trinity Church was destroyed by fire.
Formerly known as the Eastern Wesleyan Methodist Church, it was built in 1865. It was situated on the south side of Sherbrooke, on the corner of Clark (formerly known as St.Charles Borromee Street), between Clark and St.Lawrence.
In September, 1925, the Greek community bought the church and renamed it the Holy Trinity Church. It was not the Greek communities first Greek church, but it did become it's primary church for many decades after that.
There were plans to rebuilt what was left, but that never materialized. It was finally demolished on April 8, 1997.

Beder fait partie à cette époque d’une nouvelle génération d’artistes montréalais qui remettent en question l’adéquation entre modernisme et paysagisme.
ack Beder est né en 1910 à Opatów en Pologne. Il vient rejoindre son père à Montréal à l’âge de 16 ans. Il étudie à l’École des beaux-arts de Montréal de 1929 à 1934 et gagne sa vie comme affichiste. Membre de la Société canadienne de peintres en aquarelle et de la Société canadienne des arts graphiques, il participe régulièrement aux expositions de l’Art Association of Montreal (dès 1931) et de la Société d’art contemporain de Montréal (à partir de 1939).
Jack Beder est l’un des membres les plus représentatifs d’un groupe d’artistes appelés « Peintres juifs de Montréal » qui dépeignent le réalisme social de la métropole au cours des années 1930 et 1940. Ce terme, d’abord utilisé par les médias pour décrire les participants aux expositions annuelles de la Young Men’s – Young Women’s Hebrew Association dans les années 1930, a été popularisé par l’historienne de l’art Esther Trépanier à partir des années 1980.
L’œuvre de Beder a fait l’objet d’une rétrospective à la Galerie Leonard & Bina Ellen de l’Université Concordia en 2004, et elle est représentée dans plusieurs collections muséales ainsi que des dizaines de collections privées à travers le Canada. Le Musée McCord préserve dans ses collections 13 tableaux réalisés par cet artiste.
At the time, Beder was part of a new generation of Montreal artists who were redefining the relationship between modernism and landscape painting.
Jack Beder was born in Opatów, Poland, in 1910. At the age of 16, he moved to Montreal to join his father. He studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal (Montreal School of Fine Arts) from 1929 to 1934 and made a living by designing advertisements. As a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and the Canadian Society of Graphic Art, he regularly participated in exhibitions of the Art Association of Montreal (beginning in 1931) and the Contemporary Arts Society of Montreal (as of 1939).
Jack Beder was one of the most representative members of a group of artists known as the “Jewish Painters of Montreal” who depicted the social realism of the city during 1930s and 1940s. This term, first used by the media to describe the participants in the annual Young Men’s – Young Women’s Hebrew Association art show in the 1930s, was popularized by art historian Esther Trépanier in the 1980s.
The subject of a 2004 retrospective at Concordia University’s Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, Beder’s work can be found in numerous museum collections and dozens of private collections throughout Canada. The McCord Museum’s holdings include 13 paintings by this artist.
